The fourth-generation refrigerants

The fourth-generation refrigerants mainly refer to hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerants, as well as some natural refrigerants and blended refrigerant working substances. The following is a specific introduction:

Main Types

R1234yf: Its scientific name is 2,3,3,3tetrafluoropropene, which is a typical representative of the fourth-generation refrigerants. It has an extremely low global warming potential (GWP), which is only 4, far lower than 1430 of R134a. Its lifespan in the atmosphere is only 11 days, and it can be decomposed into harmless substances without causing damage to the ozone layer. It belongs to the A2L safety level and has slight flammability, but its combustion toxicity is low, and the combustion products are not lethal.

R1234ze: It is also a kind of hydrofluoroolefin. It also has environmental protection characteristics, such as a low GWP value, and is a potential substitute for traditional refrigerants like R134a, which can play a similar role in some refrigeration applications.

Natural Refrigerants: Hydrocarbon refrigerants R290 (propane), R600a (isobutane), carbon dioxide (R744), ammonia (R717), etc. Hydrocarbon refrigerants have high refrigeration efficiency, but they have the problem of high flammability. In addition to being applied to refrigerators with good sealing performance, it is difficult to promote them in other fields. Carbon dioxide and ammonia have a low GWP value and are more environmentally friendly.

Blended Refrigerant Working Substances: They are composed of a mixture of multiple different refrigerant components. By reasonably adjusting the proportion of each component, better performance and environmental protection characteristics can be obtained to meet the needs of different refrigeration systems.

Performance Characteristics

Environmentally Friendly: The outstanding feature of the fourth-generation refrigerants is that they have zero ODP (ozone depletion potential) and a low GWP. They do not damage the ozone layer, have a short lifespan in the atmosphere, and the substances generated after decomposition are harmless to the environment, which can effectively reduce the impact on global warming.

Good Thermodynamic Performance: The refrigeration effect of some fourthgeneration refrigerants such as R1234yf is equivalent to or slightly better than that of R134a. Under the same refrigeration conditions, refrigeration can be achieved with lower energy consumption, which can improve the energy efficiency of the refrigeration system.

Application Fields

Automotive Air Conditioning Systems: R1234yf has become the designated refrigerant in the mandatory regulations of the European Union for automotive air conditioners and is gradually being promoted and applied in countries and regions such as the United States and Japan.

Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration Systems: It is suitable for medium-temperature commercial and industrial refrigeration systems, including chillers, air conditioners, heat pumps, etc.

Other Fields: It can also be applied to fields such as refrigerator refrigeration, heat transfer media, and blowing agents.
